These particularly neat locos were built at St. Rollox in 1899 for passenger working on the Cathcart Circle in Glasgow and on the Balerno Branch in Edinburgh - the latter remained the special preserve of the class until the 1930s. Succumbing relatively quickly the last of the class was withdrawn in 1938.

For anyone toying with the idea of etched brass locomotive construction the simple lines of this prototype coupled with the kit design make it an ideal introduction to the medium.

Caledonian Railway Coat of Arms

"Wha dare meddle wi' me" - a loose translation of the Scottish motto (nemo me impune lacessit, litterly meaning "no-one provokes me with impunity") which was appropriated along with the Scottish coat of arms (without any sanction from the Lord Lyon, King of Arms) by the Caledonian Railway Co.
